The MMARC Newsletter July 2002
JULY MEETING…
Plan to attend the next meeting on July 11th, at 7pm in the cafeteria of BAMC in Menominee. Some items on the agenda will be review of Field Day, repeater issues, appointment of a nominations committee , among others. Remember 11 members constitute a quorum. See you all then.
NOMINATIONS ON TAP FOR AUGUST…
We will be looking for people interested in running for a club office. Elections will be held in September, and the new slate will begin in October, 2002 with the term ending in September of 2003. The nominating committee will be selected at the July meeting, and instructed to report back with a slate by August.
FIELD DAY= FUN, FOOD, FRIENDSHIP AND SOME GOOD OLD FASHIONED OPERATING…
Field Day 2002 will go down in our memories as one of the most successful ever. 39 people including a number of youngsters paid a visit to our site during the week. 28 people got an opportunity to operate, including some for the very first time. Although fun, food, and getting as many people behind the mike (or key) as possible took precedence, we did manage to log about 425 QSO’s, a very respectable total. A good number of those were made on the “vintage” rigs including a pair of Collins KWM-2’s, a nice Drake Line, a Heath HW-100, a Swan 350, and a Yaesu.
And the food lived up to it’s billing. Thanks again to AA9PB for organizing this year’s event, and N8OSK for organizing the Saturday night potluck. And thanks to all who came out and participated.
Following are a few pictures from the big event…

Screen
tents were a necessity with this year’s bumper crop of mosquitoes and flies.

AA9PB, the master of the kitchen, shows off his breakfast creations.

Stacked Collins KWM-2’s! This setup would have been the envy of any ham in the 1960’s.

Bill,
W8CBH, dropped in and camped the whole weekend.

Dave,
NS9R, operating 20 SSB from his camper.

Dan, NT9B

PICNIC PLANS PROGRESSING…
Our annual summer picnic is set for Sunday, August 25 at Henes Park in the new west pavilion, next to the deer yard. Lynne Rynish and Joan Callow are in charge, and promise a new twist or two along with the usual great food and festivities. A sign up form will be included with the August issue of the Ground Wave, along with all pertinent info.
NEW HAM ON AIR…
Congratulations to Fritz Sorensen, KC8UHU, who tested at our June session, and just received his call sign. Welcome to amateur radio.
