WISCONSIN
QSO PARTY...
By
Jim Mans, AA9PB
BAWA
Secretary/Treasurer
The
BAY AREA WIRELESS ASSOCIATION is in need of a little help. First I will explain
BAWA. We are a group of amateurs dedicated to HF Radio and all that goes along
with it, as in CONTESTING, ANTENNAS, RADIO AND EQUIPMENT REPAIR AND
MODIFICATION, ELMERING, ASSISTING OTHERS IN TOWER AND ANTENNA WORK, COMPUTER
PROBLEM SOLVING, DXING, ETC., and general HF operation. If anyone has ever
needed help with any kind of HF problem, and asked for help, odds are it was a
BAWA member that was there to help. When
BAWA was formed, we wanted to make sure that we did not “take away” from the
M&M ARC, so it is our policy
that you must first be a member in good standing of the M&M ARC to become a
BAWA member. Last year the BAWA team did a few contests and without going into
detail on all the contests, we did rather well as individuals and as a group. We
also won the M&M ARC a very nice plaque for being the TOP club in Michigan
in the Michigan QSO party. This was presented to the club at Charter Night.
This
March on the 11th we will be taking the biggest step as a club in
contesting, and again without going into detail, we are undertaking a huge
challenge. We are putting together a multi-station team to compete in the
Wisconsin QSO Party. Our problem is we don’t have quite enough personnel to
successfully execute the team’s “Game Plan”. All we need is one or two
more people who want to be part of
our contest team for a day. You don’t have to operate or be an experienced
contester to join us. However, if you want to operate, you can and will. We have
the idea that everyone is good at something different, and feel with this
concept in mind we will have a good “team”. If you are interested in joining
our team, please contact me, (AA9PB) via e-mail at aa9pb@vbe.com
or on 2 meters on 146.55. If I’m not there, call Jeff, N9PQU, or check
into the BAWA net on Monday nights
at 7:00 on 146.55.
HAM
CLASSES IN OPERATION...
Paul, WC9E reports the Ham Training is going “great guns”. There are 10 students enrolled this year, and 9 club members have volunteered as “elmers” who will provide individual tutoring. There will be additional support via e-mail and group activities. Anyone who would like to help with instruction in particular areas, or with demonstrations of the various modes of amateur radio should contact Paul.
We are planning a VE testing session for mid-April for the convenience of the graduates of the training, and anyone else. Contact Paul if you are interested in testing.
FAMILIAR CALL BACK ON AIRWAVES...
Lou, formerly W2PY, has now received his original call back, AA9JH. He acknowledges he should never have applied for a vanity call. Everyone just couldn't get used to the W2PY, especially on DX contacts, where he was usually thought to be from the east coast. Lou, caught himself many times, reverting to the AA9JH call. Welcome back....AA9JH.
MARCH ANNIVERSARIES/BIRTHDAYS…
Congratulations and best wishes to Lynne and Tom Rynish on their anniversary, March 14. Also, the following birthdays occur this month: Elaine Nelson, 11th... George Benoit, 15th... Mary Grenier, 23rd... John Edquist, 24th... Marty Eggener, 24th. Hope your day is most enjoyable.
