JANUARY
MEETING....
The
first meeting of 2001 (1st year of the Millinium) will take place on January
11th, in the cafeteria of BAMC in Menominee beginning at 7 pm. At that
time, we can discuss preparations for charter banquet and other upcoming
activities, such as ham class structure and dates, resumption of fish fries,
possibility of a Lighthouse special event station in August, and other club
events. Hope to see all there.
ANNUAL
CHARTER BANQUET...
Our
51st annual banquet has been set for Saturday February 10th at the Best
Western Riverfront Inn in Marinette. Details and an RSVP will appear in
the January Ground Wave. Don
Michalski, W9IXG, the ARRL Section Manager for Wisconsin has accepted our
invitation to attend the event. It's exciting to hear Don will be back for a
second year.
CHRISTMAS
PARTY RSVP.…
The Christmas Party will be held at Schusslers in
Peshtigo on Thursday December 14th. Please
remember to get your reservation in by Friday December 8th, along with your check. The cost is $12 per person and includes tax and tip for the
Chicken/Tenderloin Tips family style meal. NO reservations will be taken
after the 8th, as we must provide Schusslers the accurate count.
The RSVP form was mailed in last month’s Ground Wave.
THE
NET AND THE PACKERS…
In
Wisconsin, not many events dare compete with a Packer game, and that includes
the M&M ARC Net. Since the
Packers have a 7:30pm kickoff Sunday night (12/3), Ed, KG8CX, our net control,
has announced he will start the net a half hour early, about 6:30pm, to make
sure we are done in time for football.
HAM
OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS....
Don't
forget to get your HOTY nominations in no later than the Christmas party.
They will be tabulated and final tally made of the top 2 or 3 candidates.
Club members will then vote on the individual of their choice. You can
mail your nominations to the club address, or bring them to the party.
REPEATER
UPDATES....
The
147 repeater is performing well with excellent coverage. Some noise on
windy days can be expected, but overall it is better than before. The 444.075
antenna has not been installed, and probably will wait until milder weather
sets back in, and winds are minimal. The wait should be worth it,
however, as we will have a brand new machine running at least 4 times the
power at 200 feet, three times the height of the previous antenna. And
that antenna will give us about 12 db gain which translates into much wider
coverage. Many of you have been asking about this new repeater, so hang
on, the 440 side will be available soon.
WELCOME…
Welcome to the two newest members of the club, Don
Conant, N9GRK, from Marinette, and
Mel Marquardt, WD9N, from Lena. Glad to have you aboard!
LAST
CHANCE…
A reminder that dues for the current year are due
now. We update the membership
list after December 1st, and if you have not renewed your membership, this
will be the last issue of The Ground Wave you will receive. The dues remain the same…$15 per person or
$22.50 for a family membership. Send
them to P.O. Box 1082 in Marinette, or bring your check to the Christmas
Party. If you haven't renewed, we
hope you will do so now.
PICTURES
OF RADIO SHACKS WANTED...
KG8CX
would like to expand the members radio shack photo section on the club
website. Send in any recent photos you might have or can take. These can
include you and your equipment, or just the radio gear alone. You don't have
to have anything elaborate. The most basic of gear is fine. Send
them to Ed via email jpg file at kg8cx@webtv.net
or if you can provide him with a photo, he can grab it on video for inclusion.
Members already included are: AA9PB, K8IR, AA9IB, KG8CX, and KB9QNG.
Check out the club web page regularly, as it is updated frequently with
new links, photos, information on club activities, etc.

CALLING
ALL CARDS…

of Jeff, congratulations to N9PQU for being appointed one of two ARRL Field
Card Checkers for the DXCC program in Wisconsin. Our local DX'ers will
appreciate the convenience of being able to get their QSL cards checked
locally.
FROM
THE ARRL LETTER…
==>NEW
CENTRAL DIRECTOR, HUDSON VICE DIRECTOR ELECTED
The ARRL Central Division will get a new director, and a former Hudson
Division vice director and director and ARRL First Vice President is back as
the division's new vice director. Incumbents will return to office in the
Northwestern, New England and Roanoke divisions.
Ballots were counted and tabulated at
ARRL Headquarters in contested
races for director and vice director in three ARRL divisions. The vote
counting proceeded smoothly--without the sort of fanfare that's left the
recent US presidential election up in the air.
In the Central Division, challenger George R. "Dick" Isely, W9GIG,
topped
the field in a three-way race for the Director's seat. He outpolled
incumbent Director Edmond A. Metzger, W9PRN, and a second challenger,
Richard David Klatzco Jr, N9TQA. Isely picked up 1926 votes to 1466 for
Metzger and 946 for Klatzco. Metzger has served as Central Division Director
since 1981 and has 42 years of service as an ARRL elected official.
Central Division Vice Director Howard Huntington, K9KM, was unopposed for re-election.
