AUGUST MEETING…
The August meeting of the M&M Amateur Radio Club will be
held at 7pm Thursday August 12th at Henes Park, hopefully in the
third pavilion. The agenda will include the report from the nominating
committee.
The
M&M Amateur Radio Club will set up a special event station at the
Menominee Waterfront Festival. The
station will be located in a tent towards the south end of the park.
Since the date falls during the National Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend,
we will participate in that event and activate the
Menominee Pierhead Lighthouse , numbered USA-490.
AA9PB, W9YQ, AB9JF, KC8ZVC, and WA8WG have volunteered to help. All
members are encouraged to stop by the station and help operate, or just visit. This is one of the best venues we have to introduce our hobby
to the general public. NS9R has
ordered some literature from ARRL for use as handouts.
Also
the same weekend, special event station, N9L, will be operating the Eagle
Bluff Lighthouse (USA-252) in Door County.
Jim, W5AZN and Patty, W5AZO are activating several Door County
Lighthouses during the week of August 5-14th.
ANNUAL PICNIC ENJOYED BY ALL…
Over
30 members, family, and friends attended the club’s annual picnic at Henes
Park on July 11th. A
big thanks to Paul and Maxine Drees, and Jim and Joan Callow, who organized this year’s picnic. The highlight of the afternoon was a round of “Radio
Bingo” hosted by Dave and Jeanne Arnold. The Arnolds not only ran the Bingo
session, but also donated a large number of very nice prizes. Thanks also to
Tom and Lynne Rynish who donated a wind-chime to the prize pool.
No one went home without at least one prize
The
Mid-America Xtreme MAX Adventure Race was held on July 31st with
communications for the event provided by Wisconsin Section ARES members under
the direction of Wisconsin Section Emergency Coordinator, Bill Niemuth,
KB9ENO. Several of our club members who are also members of the
Marinette-Oconto ARES assisted, according to Bill, WA8WG, Emergency
Coordinator for Marinette County.
The
teams of participants are involved in several
activities, including kayaking, rock climbing, orienteering, and mountain
biking. The race is held each year in the forests of the Peshtigo Brook Forest
Preserve and Nicolet National Forest.
ARES/RACES
members were set up at various checkpoints along the route and passed
information along to Race Command.
BIG SIGNAL FROM STURGEON BAY REPEATER –
The 147.210 (107.2pl) DCARC repeater is now back on with a
wide area coverage signal. New antennas and feedline have been put
in place, and they are now one of the strongest signals around.
We now have 10 good repeaters in the area to choose from: 147.000, 444.075, 147.330, 146.880/146.835 link, 145.470, 147.210, 146.730, 444.000, and 147.180.
Thanks to all individuals/clubs who maintain, improve, and
operate these machines.
The
UP Hamfest and Computer Swap 2004 will be held on Saturday August 7th
at Bay College in Escanaba. Admission and tables are each $5.00.
Setup is Friday from 6 to 9pm and Saturday from 7 to 9am. Doors open
Saturday at 9am (EDST). It’s sponsored by The Delta County Amateur Radio
Association.
The meeting was called to order at the club’s annual picnic at Henes Park in Menominee by Vice President Dwight, W9YQ.
