MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE M&M ARC
CHRISTMAS PARTY…
The
annual club Christmas Party will be held Thursday December 9th at
Schusslers Supper Club in Peshtigo.
Social
Hour at will be at 6pm, and dinner at 7pm.
This event takes the place of the December meeting.
Twenty-four reservations were received by the December 3rd
deadline.
It
was one of the busiest VE sessions in some time. 12 candidates turned out for the M&M ARC VE testing
session held Saturday December 4th at the Stephenson Public Library
in Marinette.
The
large turnout was in part due to nine US Naval Sea Cadets from Northeast
Wisconsin in attendance. Pete, AB9PJ is a leader of the group, and PJ, W9LPF
is one of the cadets.
PJ
passed his General written test, and will be working on the code to complete
his upgrade. Another cadet, Jesse
Lietzau from Valders passed his Technician test.
Congratulations
go out to Jim, KC8YZA, who passed his Extra Class exam, and Paul, KC8YZB, who
passed his General. Both Jim and
Paul have been busy on HF and CW, and are looking forward to their added
privileges.
Also
passing his Technician test is Tony Del-Genio from Marinette. We look forward
to hearing Tony on the air.
Thanks
to the VE team, led by Paul, WC9E, and including Ed, KG8CX, Bob, AA9GZ,
Dwight, W9YQ, Pete, AB9PJ, and Jim, K8IR.
We
are sorry to report that Marianne Anuta passed away on November 18th
at the age of 101. Her death comes just over two months after her husband,
Mike, W8HKY died on September 9th at
age 103. Our condolences go out to the Anuta family.
A reminder that the deadline for paying dues for the current club year is
December 31st. Those
who have not paid their dues by that time will be removed from the active
membership roster. Dues are
$15.00 for individuals and $22.50 for families.
Please send in the membership renewal form along with your dues. The
form was in the September Ground Wave, or CLICK
HERE for a printable form.
Send
the form and dues to the club PO Box, or drop them off at the Christmas Party.
We
are always looking for interesting articles to include in the Ground Wave. If
you have something you’d like to submit, email it to K8IR at jcallow@mari.net. The following was submitted by Dennis, KB9GFX…
HOW
TO MAKE THE ICOM 2720H WORK ON MEMORY CHANNEL SCAN…
(IT
DOES work if you jump thru these hoops)
Note,
to make mine work, I reset the main CPU to clear out all the junk info
that
I had been trying to get it to work properly. I suggest no 807's until after
the programming is done! In my humble opinion Icom could have/should have made
all of the directions for the 2720 a little easier to understand.
I had to go over the bank stuff several times before it sunk in. But
then again Icom is certainly not alone when it comes to hard-to-follow
documentation. Writing good documentation is a true art.
I think what ICOM means by memory management is frequency segregation
of like frequencies in the same bank. In my case I have put vhf air
frequencies into one bank, statewide public safety frequencies into another,
local public safety in another. When we're on vacation I can put local public
safety frequencies into a bank and the local 2m/440 frequencies along with
146.52/446.00 into another bank. I can scan any single bank and monitor my
local 2m or 440 frequency or just scan 2 banks. If I want to scan everything
then I put the radio into MEMORY mode and scan.

fundraiser.
Ed
Engelman KG8CX reported on the net check-ins 25, 33 is tops so far repeater
operates well. AB9PJ Peter Johnson, Sr. reported the repeater committee and
KC8DOA need tower climbers to put on an anti-sway bar, they are trying to
coordinate this and the date seems to be 2nd-3rd week of March depending on the
weather.
Education
Committee:
Jim
Voss KC8WJO reports placing “Now You’re Talking” in the Stephenson
Library. He wants to have that book and “Ham Radio for Dummies” in all local
libraries. Would like the information about the club and books on the web site.
President
Cunningham NS9R brought to the membership a suggestion to donate $100 to the
Salvation Army, moved by Jim Voss KC8WJO, seconded by Peter Johnson AB9PJ.
The
all class testing will be Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. (tentative) with the Sea Cadets and
anyone else wishing to test.
